Unlocking the Treasure Monte Vista Elementary PTA
2011-2012
The Monte Vista PTA is affiliated with the District, State, and National PTA, which provide essential communication between our school and the government. PTA consistently represents the need to prioritize education support and funding on the State and local level.
Our PTA is proud to have the active support of parents, teachers, and staff who provide a wide array of programs that benefit the students at our school. We encourage parents to get involved, there are many opportunities to support our students, teachers, and school.
Our PTA supports numerous programs with volunteer hours and money:Howdy coffee, campus tour, back to school picnic, membership drive, classroom representatives, reflections, carnival, dine out nights, meet the masters art program, family movie night, santa secret shop, founders day, red ribbon week, project fair, yellow ribbon week, educational assemblies, staff appreciation week, emergency preparedness, yearbook, spirit wear, volunteer opportunities, and much more.
Caldecott Club (1-3 grades)
Caldecott Books
Read a Caldecott (illustration) award winner or silver medalist book and choose one of 12 different art projects to complete. The project options are described in detail in the library, with directions for students to take home. Turn in 2 of these fun projects to your teacher by February 10, 2012 and qualify for a special "Award Assembly" to be held in the spring. Complete a third book & project by May 18, 2012 and earn an Ice Cream Social at lunch recess!
Newbery Club (grades 4-6)
Newbery Books
Read a Newbery (literature) award winner or honor book and complete an AR quiz to go with it, art projects are optional. Complete 2 books and quizzes by February 10, 2012 and you will qualify for a special "Award Assembly" to be held in the spring. Complete a third book and quiz by May 18, 2012 and earn an Ice Cream Social at lunch recess!
New this year ...
Special recognition to both the primary and upper classroom which reads and turns in submissions for the largest variety of Caldecott or Newbery titles. The goal is to encourage the enjoyment of these outstanding books!
